Torc Waterfall & Mountain

The Torc Waterfall is approximately 20 meters high and nestled at the base of Torc Mountain. With the best time to view the waterfall after a heavy rain downpour when it is most wild. There is a separate viewing point of Muckross Lake & Killarney National Park if you climb the 100 steps to the left of the waterfall, this walking path is also part of the Kerry Way Walking Route.

Ross Castle

Located on the shores of Lough Leane, the 15th century Ross Castle was built by O’Donoghue Mór which then came into the hands of the Browne family and is now run by the Office of Public Works. The castle and surrounding lands make up Killarney National Park, Ross Castle was one of the last in Ireland to succumb to Cromwell forces. Containing 16th and 17th oak furniture as well as much of the original structure still in place today, the castle is an extremely enjoyable visit.

Gap of Dunloe Tour

The Gap of Dunloe is one of the most beautiful and inspiring scenery to be found in the world, and is an iconic Killarney day tour.

The O'Connor's are a local family, who run The Gap of Dunloe Tours have been in Killarney for generations so their local and historical knowledge second to none. Tadgh O'Connor has 2 traditional buses which he'll use to collect you from The Heights Hotel reception at 10am.

The bus then travel onto Kate Kearney's Cottage located at the start of the Gap where you can stop for a traditional Irish Coffee or a Hotel Whiskey before starting the second leg up into the Gap itself.

Dingle

The Dingle Peninsula or Corca Dhuibhne stretches 30 miles into the Atlantic Ocean. The coastline has sandy beaches, sea-cliffs & two large sandpits. The peninsular is dominated by surrounding mountains running from the Slieve Mish to Mount Brandon.

Dingle is full of things to see and do with a range on in and outdoor activities. Families will enjoy visiting the famous Fungie the Dolphin or taking a trip to the Aquarium, after a long days walking or visiting some of the 2,000 archaeological sites; relax in one of the many traditional Irish Pubs.

The Wild Atlantic Way

The Wild Atlantic Way is the world’s longest driving route, stretching 1600 miles in length, it is a spectacular coastal touring route which can be divided into 14 stages for easier orientation and The Heights Hotel is just moments from this breath-taking route.

For an outing with all the family have a stroll through Muckross House & Gardens with acres of green space you can enjoy a picnic in the gardens on a sunny day.
