The Gap of Dunloe is one of the most beautiful and inspiring scenery to be found in the world, and is an iconic Killarney day tour.
The O'Connor's are a local family, who run The Gap of Dunloe Tours have been in Killarney for generations so their local and historical knowledge second to none. Tadgh O'Connor has 2 traditional buses which he'll use to collect you from The Heights Hotel reception at 10am.
The bus then travel onto Kate Kearney's Cottage located at the start of the Gap where you can stop for a traditional Irish Coffee or a Hotel Whiskey before starting the second leg up into the Gap itself.
If hiking the Gap be prepared for a 7 mile hike or Tadgh can arrange for you take a the tour is approximately 7 hours in duration and your journey begins at the famous Kate Kearney’s cottage at the start of the glacial valley, as you venture into the valley surrounded by the MacGillycuddy Reeks of Kerry to the West and Purple Mountains to the East you will then pass five lakes linked together by the River Loe. On route you can stop at Lord Brandons Cottage and enjoy the stunning scenery of the Upper Lake Take a Boat and explor the 2 rivers and three lakes of the National Park. When you reach the lower lake, you can see the historic Inniisfallen Island with ruins dating back to the 6th Century. This truly is a tour you must experience for yourself, but prepare yourself to be amazed!
